Amputation

After years of stop … pause … stay … or go
In dread I came to your room to say goodbye
Gingerly I made small talk … to stifle the cry
Too afraid to ask for one last hug, one last kiss
(My medicine, your magic hug, your healing kiss)
It would have killed me to hear you say ‘No’.

When You Hear Of My Passing

When you hear of my passing
Will it make you pause … and think of Life gone by
Or will you just shrug, look away, not even a sigh.
When you hear of my passing
Will it touch you enough to squeeze out one tear
Or will you continue to act as if I was never here.

When you hear of my passing
Will you at least raise your hands in prayer
Show the relatives that, deep down, you care.
When you hear of my passing
Will it warm a memory in your cold, cold heart
Will you appreciate my total love from the start.

When you hear of my passing
Slowly read these words that you did not want to hear
Acknowledge the one-way love, and the price paid so dear.
When you hear of my passing
Think of the mothers who poisoned and twisted our Fate
My father and I, you and I, we learn this much too late.
