Do Or Die

Some people fly too close to the sun
Some people lose control, crash and burn
Most people don’t even get off the ground

Most people live a life they hate, crushed by Fate
Do nothing, happy with what is placed on their plate
The treadmill wears out those who leave it too late

Decide now, cut the strings of the puppet masters on high
Decide now, learn the rules, take control, the time is nigh
Rise up like a god and fly , or lay down like a dog and die.

Jihad Personal

Jihad personal a struggle against worldly temptations
Jihad personal a discipline to strengthen your weakness

The one lesson learned from times of yore
If you want peace — prepare for war

Jihad personal prepares you against the enemy’s attack
Jihad personal trains you to defend by fighting back

Jihad personal prevents you from attacking without reason
Jihad personal prevents you from launching an invasion

Jihad personal studies hard to root out ignorance
Jihad personal trains hard to branch out radiance

Jihad personal, in spite of the fools, is not a political tool
Jihad personal, fully understood, the best qualified school.

Birth Right

Fight the good fight till the last breath
If you ever lose the ability to create
That paralysing block will seal your fate
The worst kind of torture — a living death.

Militant

What do I want above all?

I want to work hard, make an honest living
To love and respect my mother and father
To take care of them in their old age
To look out for my brothers and sisters
To get married, and try to live happily ever after
To love and respect my wife, build a home together
To have children, love and provide for them
To watch them grow, run around, go to school
To guide them on their way in the world
To laugh and cry, go to weddings and funerals
To mix with family, relatives, and friends
To be part of the day to day soap opera
To work, pay tax, pay bills, to scrimp and save
To have a roof over my head on a rainy day
To one day be able to play with my grandchildren

The same as you.

Azad!!

What have we always wanted?
The one thing we always wanted?
Azadi!

From day one you made the wrong choice
From day one you refused to listen to our voice
Azadi!

Your army seven hundred thousand strong
Occupation, torture, rape, murder, so, so strong
Azadi!

Branded us terrorists, you sold it so well
The world bought it, we went through hell
Azadi!

We are more than willing and able
We will win at the negotiating table
Azadi!

We have paid the price with our blood
Our prayers have been answered by God
Azadi!

The countless dead, the rivers of blood
Now freedom is rushing forward like a flood
Azadi!

For the first time we control the narrative
We asked and asked, now you have to give
Azadi!

Truth, justice, freedom, the stars are aligned
The world on our side, the treaty will be signed
Azadi!

There was only one way this could end
You cannot deny us, Kashmir is OUR land
Azadi!

In order to get out of the quagmire
The enemy has to be free of Kashmir
Azadi!

Go back to your own country
I am free … I now set you free
Azadi!

Heaven on earth, Kashmir
Kashmir, Azad Kashmir
Azad!!

Mantra

Why should we limit our Selves by only paying homage
To the lower-class man paid to die fighting his counter self
A mindful man may show as reckless a courage
Daring to enter into the abyss of himself.

(wordplay with W. B. Yeats).

Be

Be an Artist
Be a god
Create your own universe
Create your own creatures
Breathe life into the chapter and verse
Your progeny, your features
Be a god
Be an Artist.

Do Not Ask Of Me For That First Love, My Beloved

Do not ask of me for that first love, my Beloved
As I understood it, having you here makes Life so luminous
Sharing your woes, I have no quarrel with sorrows of the world
Your radiant beauty blesses the earth with eternal Spring
What does this world possess to compare with your eyes?

If you were mine, Fate would bow to my command
It was not so, though I wanted it only to be so
The present time has other torments besides mere love
Other pleasures besides the thrill of coming together

Dark spells threaded on the brutal loom of Ages
Woven in silk, satin and brocade
Hand over fist, bodies sold in alleys and bazaars
Bathed in blood, shrouded in ash
Bodies forged in furnaces of pestilence
Pus oozing from their festering sores …
What can I do? My gaze keeps turning to them too
But what can I do? Though your beauty is ever attractive

The present time has other torments besides mere love
Other pleasures besides the thrill of coming together
Do not ask of me for that first love, my Beloved.

(My take on a poem by the beloved Faiz Ahmed Faiz)
